Whether you're going to be studying on campus or online, as an undergraduate, postgraduate or research student, there's one event you shouldn't miss – OWeek!
There's plenty of activities to get involved in, such as:
- campus tours
- live chats
- faculty introductions
- course information sessions
Current students and student leaders will be available throughout the week to assist you with practical, academic and social support. Representatives include faculty peer mentors, writing mentors, library rovers and maths mentors. You'll also find centralised Welcome Areas at each campus where you can ask questions and meet orientation ambassadors.
Our Get started blog can help you prepare for study and life at Deakin, with information about orientation, and helpful tips and resources for you to get the most out of university. You can filter for the relevant information for your situation – whether you're enrolled as a domestic, Cloud Campus or international student.
Cloud Campus students
If you're going to be studying online but you live near a physical campus, you're welcome to attend any campus-based orientation events that run throughout the year.To get started, you'll have access to online workshops and live chat, as well as DeakinSync and UniStart. Your orientation itinerary will provide you with details of events and activities that are tailored to you.
As a new international student, your first important event is the International Student Welcome, which is held the week before Deakin OWeek. All of your orientation events, including the International Student Welcome, are listed in your orientation itinerary. It's easy to download and will make sure you are prepared for the year ahead.
When you attend your International Student Welcome, you will need to bring:
- original transcripts of all previous studies (you may need to provide these at enrolment to verify your admission information)
- your passport and visa (or evidence of a student visa, such as a copy of an Australian Department of Immigration email confirming an e-Visa)
- your Letter of Offer
- any other relevant academic documents.
You will have the chance to hear from current students about their university experience and you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and meet other new students. You will also receive important course information, learn how to enrol and sign up for tutorials.
International students are also encouraged to attend Deakin OWeek events.
Study abroad and exchange students
If you're only studying part of your course in Australia, your OWeek is the same week you enrol.
You'll also have the opportunity to attend our three-day beach welcome trip. Enjoy a glimpse into Australian culture, while getting to know other students from around the world. As a group, you'll experience a few days of sand, surf and sun at some of the best beaches Australia has to offer.
Higher degree by research (HDR) students
When you enrol, you'll be emailed information on an HDR orientation session. The monthly, two-hour sessions run at different times throughout the academic year. You'll learn about the services and facilities we offer, and get the chance to connect with other commencing HDR students, as well as meet and hear from current HDR students about their university experience.
